Living with Heart on the Bel  Espoir : A Journey of Connection,  Discovery, and Surrender

« My time aboard the Bel Espoir wasn’t just a journey across the  Mediterranean it was a journey I lived with my whole heart. From the  very beginning, I knew this would be more than a trip. It became an  unforgettable experience that gave me not only memories, but family people from different countries who are now deeply connected to my  life.

In Malta, we were welcomed with full schedules and meaningful  moments. One highlight was the Women in the Mediterranean  conference, where I sat at a table with Maltese people, discussing  about how women are living in different countries in Mediterranean and  sharing real stories. The conversation didn’t end when the session did we were so engaged we continued on the rooftop after dinner. That  moment reminded me of the power of open, genuine dialogue.

Our first night on the boat carried the theme of discovery. Though we  shared small rooms and faced seasickness, every interaction was filled  with laughter, joy, and human warmth. I embraced every activity and  every conversation. One of the most awaited parts of each day was  when my group shouted Team Time!a space where we talked  deeply, exchanged ideas, and learned about each other’s cultures,

religions, and perspectives. These moments helped us grow closer and  understand one another beyond surface-level differences.

I also formed a beautiful bond with the crew members. We shared  laughter, stories, and joy. Learning about sailing together created a  special friendship my crew became my besties, and I’ll always carry  those memories with me.

In Crete, Greece, I loved the vibe of the island and found great meaning  in preparing my speech for the conference. I shared a real story about a  friend who migrated with her brother on foot a story that resonated  deeply with others and made me realize how powerful lived experience  can be when shared with honesty and vulnerability.

This journey taught me lessons I didn’t expect. Seasickness reminded  me that I can’t control everything sometimes, my body takes the lead,  and that’s okay. It showed me how little I let my body rest in daily life.  I’ve always felt that, as a young person, I must give everything I have.

But now, I understand that rest is not a weakness it’s necessary if I  want to keep moving forward.

Perhaps the most beautiful lesson I carry from Bel Espoir is that we can live together, even with all our differences. Respect, empathy, and  curiosity make it possible. I’ve seen it, lived it, and now I believe in it  more than ever.

The Bel Espoir wasn’t just a ship it was a floating community, a mirror  of the world as it could be. And in that small space, surrounded by sea  and soul, I discovered new parts of myself. «
